| Kangaroo Valley recently was rocked by
the sounds of gun fire, not from illegal or dangerous activities but by
the filming of the Cult TV series “Review with Myles Barlow”.
The ABC dark comedy was in the Shoalhaven
filming locations shots for its second season and the Shoalhaven has
benefited.
Local thespians from the Nowra Players
were enlisted as extras for the show and local caterers Kangaroo Valley
Bakehouse and Socrates Table were used to feed over 40 cast and crew.
The mains and crew all stayed in local accommodation in Kangaroo Valley,
adding value to the income generated from the week long filming.
Ben Harnwell president of Nowra
Players commented on the opportunities for members of the long running
theatre group. “Acting on stage is vastly different to acting for
television or film, we (Nowra Players) don’t often get a chance to do
this sort of work and expand our skills and knowledge. For the ABC to
come down here and provide us with this opportunity, well I think I
speak for every one of us on set – this was simply a fabulous, once in a
life time experience.”
The producers used Shoalhaven City
Council’s film and television directory, ‘Screen Shoalhaven’ to source
extras and caterers for this production. “This web and print based
resource was developed by Council in collaboration with BluePrint
Shoalhaven to encourage the local film and television industry in
the local region, as well as to promote the area nationally as a film
production hotspot” said Ms Rachael French, Arts and Event Manager.
“Screen Shoalhaven was launched in
July 2009 and has already seen partnerships between local directory
members. The ABC filming is a great example of how the information
portal can benefit the region both economically and creatively by
attracting external productions. We have received some great responses
to the ease of use of the resource and look forward to the Shoalhaven
attracting more television and film productions of this kind” Ms French. |
